Our family farm, consisting of 114 acres in central Pennsylvania, was started by my Grandfather, Donald Sherman Sr., in 1956. He maintained a dairy herd here until 1972 which was the year of a major flood that devastated the agricultural community in the Susquehanna River basin. After selling the dairy cattle, the operation primarily raised cash crops and finished a small number of beef cattle annually. My Father, Donald Sherman Jr., has been instrumental in continuing the family farming tradition. He has laid the ground work that will ensure our operation will continue for generations to come.
My wife Vanessa and I purchased the family farm in 2007. We typically maintain a commercial cow herd consisting of 30 brood cows which will now become part of our embryo transfer program as recipients. We are currently assembling a select herd of Registered Hereford cattle with an emphasis on producing functional cattle that can excel in a forage based program.
We feel that the purchase of our new AI herd sire Bar B 838C Red Dog will pay dividends in our operation for years to come. He is a sire that is right for the times for a variety of reasons. We are highly anticipating his first calf crop on the farm. He will also be used in our ET program with select flushes.
Feel free to contact us with any questions concerning our operation or for Red Dog semen.
Thanks,
Michael |
