At Sherman Beef Cattle, our goal is to produce cattle that can thrive on minimal inputs. Our cattle are expected to wean a heavy calf on grass every year with no exceptions. We were on a mission to locate a forage tested bull that had performance bred in - not fed in. Our search ended at Pharo Cattle Company’s 19th Annual Spring Bull Sale in Burlington, Colorado with the purchase of 9191T.

We felt 9191T, which is a complete outcross to many breeding lines today, would provide a unique opportunity to take our program to the next level. He has proven his breeding merit by performing excellently in the Pharo Program which stresses no grain required forage testing. We believe this is important because the bull was developed in the same manner that we expect our cattle to perform in. 9191T was able to not only maintain his body condition throughout his first breeding season but actually gained weight while servicing 25 cows. He has already exceeded our high expectations with his first calf crop. One of his first calves, S/B/C Grassmaster 9191T 1090, was the highest indexing Hereford bull at the 2011 Pennsylvania Performance Bull Test. We feel that this was a great accomplishment due to the fact that his progeny performed better than those sired by some of the most well known performance AI sires in the breed.

As you probably guessed by looking at our AI herdsire Red Dog, we like our Herefords to carry as much pigment as possible. He was produced at Lapp Ranch which is known for possibly the most pigmented herd of Hereford cattle in the county. I feel that this is a very important trait that is overlooked in many herds today. 9191T is very conservatively marked with heavy pigmentation and consistently stamps his calves with goggle eyes.

9191T is a big time weaning weight bull with an own ratio of 123%. His ultrasound data was very impressive at 3.03% on grass alone. He is a 4 star bull for disposition, udder quality, and fleshing ability with 5 stars for the all important trait of longevity. Please contact Michael if you are interested in semen on 9191T.
